About me

Hello, and Welcome to Vera’s Slow Living Diaries! Thank you for visiting my "About Me" page. As I embarked on this new journey called “retirement”, and the opening of a fresh chapter in my life, I find myself drawn to the world of blogging and YouTube. I've always enjoyed reading other blogs, finding them to be both inspirational and educational. They offer glimpses into the lives of others, sharing experiences, skills, and knowledge that can uplift and inspire. |
In the back of my mind, I've toyed with the idea of starting my own blog and YouTube channel. Yet, I've often pondered what I could offer that would be of value to others. What unique insights or talents could I bring to the table? Ultimately, I've come to see both platforms as a sort of diary—an opportunity to share the simple joys, challenges, and lessons of my life in the hope that they may resonate with others.
So, let me introduce myself.
My name is Vera de Gernier, though my name may sound French, I am not French by origin. I hail from Moldova, https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/moldova a small country nestled in the northeastern corner of the Balkan region of Europe. My journey led me to Canada as a refugee during the tumultuous collapse of the former Soviet Union https://www.history.com/topics/european-history/history-of-the-soviet-union . I'll delve deeper into my story in future posts.
Vancouver holds a special place in my heart—it's where I've built a beautiful family and a loving home. Yet, London, UK, was my adopted home for almost 15 years, where I lived, work before my relocation to British Columbia.
I consider myself a self-taught artist, specializing in mixed media, crafting, and DIY projects. I have a knack for breathing new life into overlooked or forgotten materials, whether it's a piece of wood or fabric. For years, I adorned my living spaces with tasteful DIY decorations, but it wasn't until recently that I fell in love with art itself.
In between painting sessions, I find solace in crafting and DIY projects—they're incredibly therapeutic and allow me to express my creativity in different ways. Additionally, photography is another passion of mine. I love capturing moments during my walks and travels, and you can find some of my images available for purchase on Fineartamerica, https://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-vera-de-gernier
