Hello and welcome to Vera’s Slow Living Diaries!

It’s been over a year since I retired and moved back to BC, and in this video I’m sharing my financial reset and updated monthly budget. When I planned for retirement, I saved carefully for moving expenses, an emergency fund, home projects, a car, and even a little for travel.

Now, 1.5 years later, I feel comfortable with my monthly expenses and want to show you howI manage my retirement budget.

In this video, I’ll walk you through my budget review, revised spreadsheets, and monthly plan—how I keep my lifestyle comfortable without overspending. I’m not living lavishly, but I do allow myself small treats—because after years of hard work, life is too short not to enjoy!

If you’re curious about how to live sensibly in retirement while still enjoying life, I hope this budget reset inspires and encourages you.

Why I Stopped Torturing Myself with “Whys” and “Ifs” – Lessons in Peace, Self-Respect, and Balance

Why I Stopped Torturing Myself with “Whys” and “Ifs” – Lessons in Peace, Self-Respect, and Balance

Small tree-covered island on calm water, symbolizing peace and reflection.

Serenity and Reflection

Bare feet in shallow water with gentle waves approaching, capturing a peaceful, mindful moment of letting go and embracing the present.

Mindful Moment by the Shore

For years, I asked myself a million “whys” and “ifs.” Why did this happen to me? What if I had done things differently? Slowly, I realized that overthinking only brings frustration, regret, and wasted energy. Life is full of lessons, and acceptance is far more powerful than dwelling on hypotheticals. Here’s why I stopped torturing myself with “whys” and “ifs”:

Why is this happening to me?

Because it’s part of life’s journey. Every experience is a lesson. Instead of dwelling, I accept the situation, learn what I can, find a solution, and move forward.

Why do I have no regrets about my life choices?

Because dwelling on the past accomplishes nothing. I focus on the future, on the life I want to create, and on the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

Why do I stay away from negative people?

Because they drain my energy and cloud my peace of mind. Life is too short to carry the emotional baggage of others.

Why don’t I take rude behavior personally?

Because it says more about them than me. People without manners will always find ways to show it.

Why won’t I let anyone emotionally abuse me?

Because I know my worth. I’ve learned how to stand up for myself, and I refuse to accept anything less than respect.

Why do I avoid getting involved in movements or groups?

Because I value independent thinking. I don’t want to be brainwashed or lose sight of my own perspective.

Why did I stop having high expectations from my children?

Because it’s their journey. They need to learn how to stand on their own feet, make their own decisions, and navigate life independently.

Why do I cut off people who mislead me?

Because I believe in trust and honesty. If someone lies or misleads me three times, it’s time to let them go.

Why don’t I create or indulge in drama?

Because there is always a better way — either sort things calmly or simply walk away. Drama is a waste of energy.

Why don’t I compare myself to others?

Because I live within my own means and embrace my own path. Life isn’t a competition; it’s a journey unique to each of us.

Why am I financially free?

Because I made conscious choices, avoided debt, and focused on living within my means. Money stress doesn’t define me — freedom does.

Why do I take care of my health and weight?

Because my body is my home. Eating well, moving regularly, and resting when needed help me feel strong, energized, and capable of living life fully.

Why do I strive to balance my life?

Because harmony is essential. I balance work, rest, creativity, relationships, and solitude, knowing that all these pieces contribute to a peaceful, fulfilling life.

Why am I at peace with love and relationships?

Because some things simply aren’t meant to be. Life has a way of guiding us toward what truly belongs to us, in its own time.

***Life is too precious to be spent trapped in endless “whys” and “ifs.” Acceptance, self-respect, and focus on the present and future bring clarity, peace, and empowerment. I’ve learned to let go of overthinking, embrace lessons, and live intentionally — free from unnecessary mental torture.

Join me on a budget-friendly day trip to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, where history, charm, and coastal beauty come together. My journey began with a scenic 1.5-hour ferry ride through the stunning Gulf Islands, followed by a bus 72 ride that brought me straight into downtown Victoria.

Known for its British colonial architecture, the picturesque Inner Harbour, and world-famous gardens, Victoria has proudly held its title as the capital since 1868, making it one of Canada’s oldest and most fascinating cities.

The Art of Slow Living in Retirement | Cozy Homemaking, DIY & Outdoor Life

Welcome back to another week of slow living in retirement!

In this vlog, I invite you to join me as I enjoy the little joys that shape my days. From cooking simple homemade meals to working on cozy farmhouse-inspired DIY and sewing projects, each moment adds a touch of comfort and creativity to my retired life.

I also share some homemaking routines that keep things running smoothly, along with a relaxing outdoor walk to refresh my mind and body. To top it off, I take you along on a practical shopping trip to Home Depot, where I picked up a few essentials for upcoming projects.

Retirement, for me, is all about embracing a slower pace, staying inspired through hands-on creativity, and finding happiness in everyday routines. If you enjoy thoughtful homemaking, budget-friendly DIY, and peaceful glimpses of daily life, you’ll love this week’s vlog.
